Values That Drive My Vision
Comprehensive Wellness: I value health and wellbeing. As a parent of an immunocompromised child, I have learned from engagement with groups like Ever Active Schools that a framework of wellness is essential. The PSD Wellness Page outlines our current framework however I think it is important to highlight to our community what is working well and what needs consideration on what components our schools can improve. Continous evaluation is critical to know we are meeting our own expectations.
If wellness is a lens applied across Parkland School Division, it simplifies our priorities and adds simplicity to complex topics.
Community Engagement: I value hearing feedback from Stakeholders. The more engaged Trustees are with their community, the more our community can provide feedback. I think it is important to have what I call, ‘standing office hours’: The means regular availability as a Trustee to meet with Spruce Grove residents to hear about topics they would like to discuss. This can be virtual or in person and it will be easy for people to participate in. It can be 1:1, or with a small group, but the more people that have a seat at the table, the better the solutions we can come up with.
Partnerships: I value collaboration. Understanding what is going on with current and potential community partners is crucial to having new and diverse experiences for students. Spruce Grove is blessed with resources and they can help deliver a better experience for all students than if we stand alone.
Truth and Reconciliation: I value the commitment to of our community to do our part with respect to Truth and Reconciliation and the 94 calls to action. Being Chair of the Spruce Grove Public Library has provided opportunities to understand what local resources are available to help support Indigenous relations and partnership opportunities with Parkland School Division. This process will likely take generations. We need to recognize Truth before we can Reconcile anything.
